Parenting Advice from a Teen

Former Connecticut Friends School student Emma Dubin, of Wilton, has published a book called How to Parent Emma and Other Young Teens (available on The 15-year-old is now a student at Miss Porter’s, an all-girl’s boarding school in Farmington, Connecticut. She first conceived of and began researching the book while a CFS student. Here is an excerpt from her book:

“I’ve had an unusual school experience. Until seventh grade, I was at a minuscule Quaker school, which I adored. For eighth grade, my parents forced me to go the public school in my town, one of the top public schools in the country, because they thought the Quaker school “wasn’t academic enough.” I was miserable at the public school. Not because it was a bad school, or because people were outwardly mean, but because, after my perfect little Quaker school, it just was huge, institutional, and unfriendly.”
